Positive Deviance

You might want to use a Positive Deviance approach when you have seemingly intractable problems. PD is not a quick fix though – the process is about identifying the people that are doing really well despite the odds: it can therefore take up to 18 months to see the first good results.

‘Results’ in PD are grounded in data: the data sets and data gathering processes are designed, measured, and reported on by the community. The whole process is genuinely community owned and therefore creates an environment where new solutions emerge and the behaviours of communities are changed. All you need is excellent PD facilitators to help you make it a reality!
