Context and Purpose
DP World a leading global logistics company shipping 10% of the world’s trade, employing hundreds of thousands of people across a variety of functions across the world.
To strengthen its culture of safety and shared responsibility, the organisation partnered with MutualGain to deliver an Appreciative Inquiry programme that brought employees and leaders together to explore what works well and how to build on it.
The goal was to shift conversations about safety from compliance and blame to ownership, pride, and shared accountability.
Approach and Delivery
MutualGain designed and facilitated a three-day Appreciative Inquiry in Poland, bringing together 175 employees from 83 locations across 16 European countries. Using storytelling and strengths-based dialogue, participants identified when safety works at its best and the conditions that make it possible.
Through a creative Dream Phase modelling exercise, cross-cluster teams co-designed their ideal future safety culture and voted on a shared vision:
“Safety culture is a chain – Own your link!”
The implementation of that dream continues at pace with energy across Europe.
Outcomes and Impact
Impact has been huge – all teams moving forward doing their inquiries, implementing new ideas, and connecting across teams and countries to learn and support each other on a regular basis. here is a sentiment of what has been heard:
For emotional and learning impact
“It has been such a gift to learn from you… You created an atmosphere where learning felt natural and everyone could grow and contribute.”
“This makes me feel like I can speak up and ensure my voice is heard and make sure we all go home to our families.”
“Not a single table reached consensus on a single meaning of the word ‘run’… a powerful reminder that even simple safety messages can be interpreted very differently.”
