Context and Purpose
Safe Landing is a community of aviation workers, students, and enthusiasts committed to achieving a sustainable aviation industry.
To give workers a meaningful voice in shaping that transition, MutualGain partnered with Safe Landing to design and deliver a Visioning day: a structured, deliberative process enabling aviation workers to explore how their industry can evolve responsibly in the face of climate change.
The collaboration also included facilitation training to build Safe Landing’s capacity to run the session objectively within their budget.
Approach and Delivery
In September 2025, 26 aviation workers were brought together to reflect the diversity of roles, experiences, and views found across the sector.
Over the course of the Visioning Day, participants engaged in structured small-group discussions, role-play exercises, and a creative visioning process.
These activities encouraged empathy, collaboration, and critical thinking, helping participants to explore the trade-offs and opportunities within aviation’s transition to net zero.
The facilitation design ensured every voice was heard and that participants could connect their professional insight to wider social and environmental responsibilities.
Outcomes and Impact
The Assembly produced five co-created visions for the future of aviation, each addressing a key dimension of sustainable transformation:
social, financial, technical, political, and environmental
These visions will be refined into a single, collective statement that captures the shared ambition of aviation workers for 2050 which will be used to support Safe Landing to secure future funding for a full in depth Citizens’ Assembly on the decarbonisation of the industry.
The process demonstrated how deliberative engagement can bridge divides within complex industries, fostering understanding between workers and decision-makers and building a shared sense of responsibility for change. Visioning days like this show how structured dialogue can turn uncertainty into co-owned solutions for a just transition.
