A Newport Participatory Budgeting Programme Report

Newport Participatory Budgeting Programme Report

In 2020, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board made £100,000 available for a Participatory Budgeting programme that focused on well-being in Newport. The aim was to support local communities to recover from the impact of COVID-19. This funding was secured from the Welsh Government Early Years and Prevention Fund.

Participatory Budgeting (PB) puts community members in control of allocating funds to projects that benefit the community. PB is a democratic process where applicants were asked to make a short video about their project, and Newport residents vote for the projects that they believe will be of most benefit to the community.
